Prepare Your Outdoor Spaces for Summer
Humdakin’s Outdoor Cleaning Checklist
Summer is just around the corner, bringing with it long, bright evenings, warmth on your skin, and a return to outdoor living.
Gradually, the home expands to include terraces, balconies, and garden spaces—places where we gather, relax, and enjoy life’s small moments in the sunshine.
But before we can fully embrace the season, our outdoor areas often need a fresh start. After the winter and spring months, the transition into summer becomes clear: dust, pollen, and traces left behind by the weather.
That’s why we’ve put together a simple outdoor cleaning checklist to help you get your outdoor spaces ready for the season.

Clean Your Terrace or Balcony
There is something truly special about stepping out onto a terrace or balcony on an early summer morning. The fresh air, the sound of birds singing, and the feeling that the day has only just begun.
But before you can fully enjoy the space, it’s worth giving it a thorough clean.
Start by removing dust, dirt, and cobwebs with a hand brush or broom. Work from top to bottom—along door frames, corners, and surfaces—to ensure everything is cleaned properly.
If you have a balcony, it’s a good idea to collect dirt and debris in a dustpan rather than sweeping it over the edge.
Next, clean all surfaces with water and a mild all-purpose cleaner, either in a bucket or a spray bottle. Use a cloth, brush, or broom to remove pollen and more stubborn dirt.
Finish by washing the floors and windows, leaving the entire space feeling fresh, clean, and inviting.
Don’t forget your outdoor furniture. Remove dust and pollen, and clean the surfaces with our Wood Cleaner. It effectively removes dirt, grime, and algae from wooden surfaces. For easy application, you can dilute it in our empty Wood Spray Bottle.
Once everything is dry, it’s time to bring out the cushions and let your outdoor space become a natural extension of your home.

Prepare Your Greenhouse for Summer
A greenhouse is one of those places where summer feels most alive. The light, the warmth, and the sense of calm create a truly special atmosphere.
After the quiet of winter, however, it deserves a thorough refresh.
Start by removing dust and cobwebs from all surfaces. Then wash with water and a mild soap to loosen dirt and residue.
If a deeper clean is needed, use a stronger cleaning product and work your way into corners and joints where dirt tends to accumulate.
Rinse thoroughly with water and finish by drying all surfaces, allowing the light to flow freely through the space once again.
Crystal-Clear Windows for Long Summer Days
Clean windows can transform the feeling of an entire home. They open up a space and invite both light and summer indoors.
Use water and a mild all-purpose cleaner or dish soap, and wash the windows using gentle, steady motions. For the best results, use cold water with a splash of vinegar to help prevent streaks.
Work with a window squeegee in a smooth S-shaped motion from top to bottom, and finish with a dry cloth for a clear, streak-free result.
It’s a simple routine—but one that makes a remarkable difference to the overall impression of your home.

Care for Your Wooden Surfaces
Wood is a natural, living material that changes with the seasons and the environment it is part of.
On terraces and in gardens, wooden surfaces are especially exposed to sunlight, moisture, and changing weather conditions. Regular cleaning and maintenance with a wood cleaner can help keep them looking their best.
After cleaning, you can treat your wooden furniture with wood oil to preserve the appearance of the surface and help extend the life of the material.
Apply the oil evenly with a clean cloth and allow the wood to absorb the product at its own pace. This enhances the wood’s natural grain and leaves it with a beautiful, well-maintained finish.
A simple routine that both protects and refines, helping your outdoor space stay beautiful throughout the season.

Refresh Your Outdoor Textiles
Outdoor textiles help create the soft and inviting atmosphere that makes an outdoor space feel like an extension of your home. From cushions and pillows to throws and blankets, they add comfort and character throughout the season.
At the same time, they naturally collect pollen, dust, and moisture over time.
Start by shaking out and airing your textiles outdoors on a dry day, allowing the fresh air to do some of the work for you.
For stains, use a mild soap solution with laundry detergent or gently pre-treat the area with dish soap to help loosen dirt from the fabric. When removing stains, always use ice-cold water for the best results.
Follow up with spot cleaning as needed, or wash the textiles according to the care instructions provided. Once clean and dry, finish with a light mist of a 2-in-1 textile spray to leave fabrics feeling fresh and newly laundered.
Always ensure that textiles are completely dry before using them again.
Create an Inviting Outdoor Space
Once the cleaning is done, it’s time for the part where your outdoor space truly becomes your own.
Add greenery, beautiful pots, and textiles in soft, natural materials. Let colours and shapes reflect the atmosphere you wish to create.
For smaller balconies, planter boxes are a wonderful way to introduce lush greenery without taking up valuable floor space. Complete the setting with lanterns, string lights, or soft outdoor lighting to extend the evenings and create a sense of calm.
If you have a greenhouse, it can become a small sanctuary — a place for coffee, conversation, and long summer evenings where time seems to slow down just a little.
